Our Story
Heroes for Hooters was started in 2013 by Cindy Lupinetti and Susanne Whitney
Breast cancer survivor Cindy Lupinetti and her friend, Susanne Whitney started working together in 2013 as co-chairs for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Kent and Sussex Counties. Cindy and Susanne, because of their passion to raise money and awareness for breast cancer, in 2013, decided to hold a fundraising event at Cowboy Up {Dover, DE}. After meeting with Felicia Baker, the owner of Cowboy Up, the first annual Lights -n- Sirens fundraising event was born. The name Lights -n- Sirens is the brain child of Kristie Pedigo. In mere moments of establishing the Lights -n- Sirens event, Adam Gillespie, police officer and firefighter, coined the name Heroes for Hooters and so it began...
The event took place on October 10, 2013 at Cowboy Up with local police officers and firefighters participating in the Heroes for Hooters - Bar Brawl 2013. Local businesses and individuals stepped up to provide money, items, and their personal time to make the event a giant success! Cindy and Susanne had set a fundraising goal of $2,000. Our local Heroes and the general public that attended the event raised a total that evening of $2,325.
Because of the resounding success of the event, Cindy and Susanne have decided to begin the community organization of Heroes for Hooters to continue to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and to provide positive recognition for our local police officers and firefighters who not only risk their lives on a daily basis but without hesitation band together to help our cause. Cindy and Susanne's ultimate goal is to grow the Heroes for Hooters organization; obtain Federal non-profit status; and leave a legacy for their children and grandchildren.
And in a perfect world, Cindy and Susanne hope there's no need for Heroes for Hooters in the future because we will have won the battle against breast cancer
In 2017 Susanne left us to start A Walk in Their Shoes. An organization supporting Law Enforcement Officers
